Home club – Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowls Club
When and where did you first start bowling?
I first saw the game being played while I was on a stroll through Lake Park soon after moving to Milwaukee. I was encouraged to try the game and took the lawn bowling club up on their offer of free lessons on Wednesday evenings in the summer of 2006.
What do you like about lawn bowling? What keeps you coming back?
I like that lawn bowling is played outdoors, requires skill and strategy, has varying levels of competition, and does not hurt my knees. I keep coming back because I like the challenge of each game and really enjoy the camaraderie of the other lawn bowlers.

It’s a combination of the great people I have met and continue to meet, at home and around the U.S., and the great level of competition that the game provides, in addition to its strategy and amount of mental strength required.

Steve Nelson

Home club – Milwaukee Lake Park
When and where did you first start bowling
Calgary Alberta – 1983 to 1986; then resumed in Milwaukee in 2000
What do you like about lawn bowling? What keeps you coming back?
First and foremost, lawn bowling is a great community of people, who care not a wit for anything but only if you enjoy the game. As for the game, when I learned lawn bowls is like a puzzle – choosing among a myriad of options the one shot that will yield the result you want – I was hooked. I also love that the game is hypnotic and takes you to a place where time stands still. See complete profile on Steve Nelson.
