Central Division women’s pairs earn silver at U.S. Championships

With a record of 5-2, Anna Witt and Glorianne Mather earned a silver medal at the 2011 U.S. Lawn Bowling Championships completed Sunday in Seattle. The gold medalists from South Central had a record of 5-1-1. Congratulations to Anna and Glorianne for their solid play all week long.
In singles play, Max Cavender lost a heartbreaker 20-21 in his final game against Southeast that left him a point short of winning silver. Nevertheless, Max played very well all week against a strong field and finished with a record of 4-3. After a slow start, Charlene Harmon’s play grew steadier throughout the week and she completed the tournament with a record of 2-5.
The men’s pairs team confounded themselves with erratic play all week, dropping their last game 13-16 after leading 11-0. In a prior match, Carl Landgren and Steve Nelson found themselves down 2-17 against PIMD before staging a comeback that fell a bit short, losing 15-18. They finished with a record of 3-4.
Kudos to the Jefferson Park LBC and the Northwest Division for hosting an outstanding tournament. Complete tournament results and a full photo gallery can be viewed at www.seattlebowls.org.
